Africa Deluxe Tours A whale of a tail

Hermanus Day Tour

You will be collected at your hotel in Cape Town. The tour follows a spectacular coastal drive via False Bay, Betty's Bay and Kleinmond to Hermanus - with stops for photographs. Hermanus is known for providing the best shore-based whale-watching in South Africa. Cliff-top footpaths, right next to the ocean, provide elevation for perfect views of whale pods which frequently swim close to shore.

Southern Right Whales migrate annually from the Antarctic to our southern coastal waters to give birth and to suckle their young. Hermanus is located on the shoreline of Walker Bay, which provides protected waters for the whales. These giants of the sea normally visit our shores from July to November.

Leisure time and an opportunity to sit down for lunch (own account) at one of the charming local restaurants is provided in Hermanus. You also have the opportunity to visit a colony of rare African Penguins at Betty's Bay (ZAR10 for your own account). The tour returns to Cape Town via Elgin and Sir Lowry’s Pass. The latter provides views across False Bay, the Cape Winelands and the Cape Flats to the extended Table Mountain Range and Cape Town as you descend from the Hottentots Holland Mountains.

African Penguins at Betty’s Bay

African Penguins are classified as ‘vulnerable” and are only found along the African Coast in the Southern Hemisphere. They normally colonize islands and are seldomly found on the the coast of the mainland. Stoney Point at Betty’s Bay is one of only three such places and offers the rare opportunity to see them up close.

The 'cliff path' at Hermanus follows the rocky coastline in and outside of Hermanus for kilometres and perfectly compliments long walks in search of the perfect whale sighting.

Hermanus whale watching

Hermanus is known as the best land based spot for whale watching. The steep coastal cliffs and the depth of the water make it possible for whales to come close to the land. In season, which is normally from June to December, the number of whales at Hermanus can be more than 100.
