Africa Deluxe Tours Trennery's Hotel Bedroom

Trennery’s Hotel & Camping

Trennery’s Hotel is located at Qolora Mouth near the Kei River in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. It is a country-style, laid-back hotel fronted by a beautiful pristine beach with the Qolora River to one side and WIld Coast hills as backdrop.

In typical Wild Coast style the destination suit those who want to get away from the crowds and off the beaten track. This is a remote and rural place, when hiking along the beach it’s quite common to encounter cattle lazing on the beach. Typical of the Transkei, within which the Wild Coast is found, many of the hills are dotted with traditional thatched rondavels and family compounds. Often young boys are out herding cattle and old Xhosa women may be seen smoking tobacco pipes. Women dress in colourful Xhosa attire and bakkies (pickup trucks) ranging from rust buckets to brand new double cabs dominate family transport, with minibus taxi’s also ever present.

Trennery’s provide its guests access to a typically rugged Wild Coast shoreline, interspersed with beautiful sandy beaches. You may opt to take a leisurely pace by lounging next to the pool or on the beach. The hotel also offers various activities including 'extreme' golf and lagoon cruises. For the more active there's the option of hiking along the coastline. For an introduction to local Xhosa culture you may opt to join a guide from the local community for a visit to a nearby traditional homestead. All funds raised go the local community.

Accommodation is chalet-based and family orientated. The country-style hotel also offers an onsite restaurant and swimming pool.

A typical stretch of coastline on South Africa's Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape's Transkei region.

Wild Coast

The Wild Coast covers the north-eastern coastline of the Eastern Cape province and is part of the former homeland of Transkei. It is indeed quite "wild" with little infrastructure and almost no commercial development. This is the region's greatest attraction as well as its greatest drawback. Facilities for tourism is limited.

Xhosa people

A person who has isiXhosa as home language is referred to as a Xhosa. IsiXhosa is one of South Africa's eleven official languages. It is in fact, in terms of home languages, South Africa's second largest language group (17.9%) after isiZulu (22.9%). The language falls in the Nguni-language group.
