The peaceful small town of Albertinia is situated against the backdrop of the Langeberg Mountain Range on the Garden Route, on the National Road (N2) from Cape Town. The region is especially known for the prolific aloes (aloe ferox or Cape aloe) growing in this area. The aloes come into full bloom during the winter months, surrounding the town with a wonderful show of colour.
The Garden Route Game Lodge in the district offers game viewing of many species of antelope, a wide variety of birds and the Big Five.
Albertinia has two aloe factories where the leaves of the aloes are drained of their bitter sap and processed for different health and skin care products. The town is also a primary source of red and yellow ochre, used in the manufacturing of paint and in the colouring of cement.
Agriculture in Albertinia is centered around livestock farming and vineyards. Because of the dry climate, the vineyards are mostly tended organically and excellent wines are produced.
