Sani Pass Full Day Tour

This full day tour departs daily from Umhlanga and Durban. Tour duration is ±13-hours.

You’ll start the day at sea-level on South Africa’s east coast in KwaZulu-Natal. During your travels on this tour you’ll climb to a height of ±2900m / ±9500ft above sea love (ASL). From Durban you’ll travel inland to Himeville near the base of the Sani Pass. It’s the highest pass in South Africa. While your route to Himeville is tarred, part of the magic of Sani Pass is that it’s gravel and it’s advisable to only take it on in a 4x4 (all-terrain vehicle). You’ll transfer into 4x4 vehicles, with experienced and permitted drivers, for your journey up the mountain. The uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s part of a great escarpment at the eastern edge of Southern Africa’s inland plateau.

You’ll snake your way up the winding pass, all the while enjoying beautiful views of the valleys below. At the top of the pass a tiny border post awaits. Take out your passport and do the formalities (all visa requirements for your own arrangements). Congratulations, you’re now in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. From there you head to a Basotho village before retiring to the ‘highest pub in Africa’ at the Sani Mountain Lodge (previously Sani Top Chalet) for lunch. After lunch it’s all downhill as you retrace your steps back to the coast. You’ll have an unforgettable experience and great memories to take home with you.
