Africa Deluxe Tours Swazi Candles piece

Swazi Candles

Swazi Candles is situated in the Malkerns Valley in the Kingdom of Swaziland. It has been producing fine handmade candles since 1981. Local Swazi artists and craftsmen produce unique candle designs which are renowned throughout the world. Each Swazi Candle, unique in shape and character, is hand-moulded and hand-finished.

The humble home of Swazi Candles is very popular with the public. The rural farm-like setting includes a small candle workshop, a factory showroom where you can buy candles, an open air arts & crafts area with artists producing sculptures on site, a small clothing store and an informal coffee shop.

The candles are made in line with the ancient art of millefiore (from Alexandria, Murano & Venice). Instead of glass, the gifted candle makers of Swaziland use a special wax to create their colourful designs. A hard wax veneer forms the outer shell of the candle, which hardly melts when the candle is lit. Hence a rich, romantic glow illuminate the exterior as the candle burns.

The candle makers model a wide range of sizes and shapes, and even the smallest is moulded with great attention to detail. Shapes and veneers vary from the more traditional to the entirely original, inspired by the patterns, colours and animals of Africa. Exciting innovations are introduced regularly to expand the already considerable range and to ensure its quality.
