Tsitsikamma

The Tsitsikamma National Park is a section of the broader Garden Route National Park, a coastal Nature Reserve that stretches eastwards for 80 km from Natures Valley. It is known for its indigenous forests, mountains and rugged coastline.

The name Tsitsikamma is derived from the indigenous khoi language. "Tse-tsetsa" means “clear” and "gami" means “water”, probably named after the Tsitsikamma River.

The Tsitsikamma National Park offers the tourist a huge variety of experiences. Apart from the sheer beauty of the forests, the mountains and the coast, there are a variety of attractions to visit. The Tsitsikamma includes a number of rivers that run in deep gorges and are spanned by impressive bridges. The most famous is the Bloukrans River Bridge that houses the highest bungy jump site in the world.

A visit to the Big Tree is recommended. A lovely forest walk takes you to this magnificent Yellow wood tree that is estimated to be more than 800 years old.

The main camp of the Tsitsikamma National Park is at Storms River Mouth. Apart from a choice of accommodation options, the beauty of this rugged coast can be enjoyed from the open deck of the restaurant, or on one of the many walking trails.
