Protea Hotel Balalaika

The 4-star Protea Hotel Balalaika is located in the upmarket commercial hub of Sandton, one of Johannesburg’s affluent ‘northern suburbs’. It is home, amongst other institutions, to banking headquarters, the national ‘Johannesburg, Stock Exchange’, the Sandton Convention Centre and the ever-popular Nelson Mandela Square. The Balalaika is located about 400m from the latter and 700m from the Sandton Gautrain Station (a rapid rail link that includes a link to O.R. Tambo International Airport).

The national Protea Hotels Group has recently been acquired by Marriot and thus the hotel currently is known by different names, in addition to Protea Hotel Balalaika, it is also known as the Protea Hotel Johannesburg Balalaika Sandton and the Protea Hotel by Marriott Sandton Balalaika. The hotel is divided in two sections, the Balalaika and the Crown Court, each with its own lush, landscaped garden and sparkling swimming pool.

All 300 guest rooms and suites are en suite and air conditioned. The hotel feature a dining room, the Bull Run Restaurant (steakhouse favorites), a Deli and lobby bar and lounge. Facilities and services further include free wifi and a fitness centre.

Constitution Hill

Constitution Hill in the city of Johannesburg, is one of the major historical sites in South Africa. The Old Fort Prison, where political prisoners were incarcerated used to be here. The same site where human rights were so brutally abused today houses the Constitutional Court for the protection of the rights of all citizens of the country.

The Apartheid Museum

The Apartheid Museum is part of the Gold Reef City theme park in Johannesburg, South Africa. Sandton is one of Johannesburg’s northern suburbs. It is home to the headquarters of South Africa’s major banks, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Sandton Convention Centre, large malls and a host of hotel options. Sandton provides easy access to various attractions, as well as O.R. Tambo International.
